was the custom tailor to high ranking officers. Dark blue wool outer layer with
bright yellow wool lining. Has the gold braid piping or edging around outer edge
and velvet collar. Beautiful original condition and we believe that the survival
rate of these is nill. You will look the world over to find a better one. At a
Little John auction last year, one of these, by this same maker but with RED
ARTILLERY lining brought $3450. A cavalry collector's dream come true!,$4000

HIDE COAT AS WORN BY THE U.S. MILITARY AND OTHERS DURING THE SEVERE WINTER
WEATHER, HERE IN THE WEST. These big coats allowed the military to conduct
winter campaigns against the Northern Plains Indians. As such, they were
directly responsible for the defeat of the Plains Indians. They replaced the
woolen overcoats, capes and blankets that the Army had previously issued and
were not warm enough to enable soldiers to withstand the cold winter weather.
Prior to receiving these coats and other gear made of buffalo hide, the military
suffered greatly.$1450
